BUYING SHOES

When I say "buying shoes", you know that I'm talking about buying shoes (for my kids) right? I'm jealous of how many shoes they've over their life. So let's just say that I shop vicariously through them. For instance, one of my most favorite shoes that my son ever had were these old school Adidas with the ribbed bottom sole. They were a light green, white 3 stripe, and Velcro strap. He was only about 3 years old, so he looked real fresh with his chubby little legs. Every time I think about it, it reminds me how beautiful life can be. That memory definitely has prime space in my hippocampus.

Personally, I've never been a shopper. I'd usually wear my pairs of shoes down to the holes. So I didn't have to go often. But with kids changing shoe size every time you sneeze, you have no choice. However, I got excited to shop for shoes for them. I've always liked sneakers growing up, so It's kinda like I'm shopping for mini shoes for myself.

Of course, I've made my share of bad buys when it comes to my shoes as well. I remember one time, I think I only wore them for a week because they were very uncomfortable on the back of my heal. But I held onto them for the occasional wear because the design on them were really cool. So when it comes to my kid's shoes I want to make the smart choice as well as the cool choice.

Anyways, I talk about this now because I'm - you guessed it - shopping for shoes for my son online. And at the same time when I remembered to do this task, I tied it into a parenting blog moment because when you think about it, the task of buying shoes is one of the "assumed" responsibilities of parenting. Sort of like making breakfast lunch and dinner, doing laundry, and many many other things. But just because it's considered an assumed responsibility, doesn't make it any easier. The task still takes effort to be done. How much effort? is up to you.

It is said that our children learn from us but that we also learn from our children. When I think of my personal memory of buying specific items for my kids whether they be shoes or any other clothing, is that it gave me a memory that will forever bring me happiness... and who would have known that buying shoes would lead me to such an unforgettable feeling.

So remember that some things involving your children may seem simple, but you never know what it can lead to for you.
