Trait #3: CLeaning

Cleaning and the smell of clean was always present in my house growing up. My mom always made time to clean and keep things clean. And this I inherited from her. When I moved out for the first time, my apartment was super clean. Every crack and every cranny. I knew that it kept the "nasty" away and I relied on those cleaning techniques I witnessed my mom do. And ever since my kids were young, I instilled the process of picking up after ourselves and and keeping a clean and healthy environment. Ever since they were young, I was very adamant on keeping the house sanitized and safe. And with 3 kids, I had to do it more frequently, than when I was a bachelor (r.i.p.). Anyways, you're a parent, you know how it goes...

As I think of this current coronavirus crisis we are going through, it makes me grateful that my mom was such a great example of how to keep a home clean. And as I past this trait down to my kids, they understand better now why I'm always keeping the house clean. And so it was an easier adaptation for them to be more vigilant in hand hygiene and self care.

My oldest daughter was cheeky to me once (haha. just once, right.) and said, "I thought you wanted to hang out with me, all we are doing is cleaning." and I replied. "Yes honey, but we are still talking and conversing. It's not about what we do together, it's how we interact during that time." And very often, we would be talking while I was doing some kind of cleaning, because 3 kids is a lot of work. But it was something that I prioritize for their health and I know that I was a good example for them.

Sometimes it seems "old" to instill these small traits handed down from our role models, but we should never dismiss the opportunity it may give us to bond with our kids, while teaching something valuable. And ultimately, we gotta clean our gross.

In conclusion, Here is my top 2 nasty places to clean in the house:

#1 The toilet. Come on!! of course. Especially down close to the base and around the back. Makes me gag every time. And the handle for the toilet, because that gets touched consistently. Nothing is as nasty as the toilet. I think that scholars would agree that the word nasty would be the most appropriate word to define cleaning a toilet. Nonetheless, it's gotta be cleaned.

#2 The rest of the bathroom. Everything you touch is nasty, so it should all be wiped down, especially the light switches, door handles, faucet handles, and TP dispenser, and don't forget the bath/shower.

#3 It's not really nasty, but it should be the cleanest place in the house - that's right the Kitchen. I love it when I can drop a piece of food on the food and just pick it up with confidence that it's been cleaned. Coincidentally, I hate when I drop a piece of food on the floor because It means I have to clean the floor again.

Take care All!
