Bad Luck Job

Bad Luck Job actually starts off really well.

I'll let you discover why it became bad luck.

So I answered this ad on craigslist once - you know it's already bad when you start the sentence with "I answered this ad on craigslist once" - "AD", "CRAIGSLIST" AND "ONCE" don't combine well in using craigslist. For instance, I've gotten furniture a couple of times off craigslist, it's pretty good. Now that sounds like a gentle story. So anyways, I answered this ad on craigslist once that was looking for a part-time caregiver. The person was pretty active, but their age and physical decline required some help with house work and driving time. My replies with the person went well and they hired me. At the time, I was already working full time evenings, and so I would assist in caregiving part time in the mornings. Honestly, for me, I really enjoyed the time because I felt that I was helping someone - cleaning their house - some parts were kinda gross, but nothing bit me, and I only inhaled a minimal amount of bleach and all-purpose cleaners. They had a cat so I cleaned after that atrocious thing. I have allergies to cats and just writing that sentence, my nose tickled. I drove them to a hair salon (that served champagne), the grocery store, the post office, doctor's appointments, and then they would buy lunch in the midst of errands. I also enjoyed laughing with the person. I think laughing is one of the best remedies. And so I would do my best to get a chuckle or more out of them. For instance, the person that I helped, enjoyed leaving peanuts out for the squirrels to enjoy. So one day when I was referring to the squirrels, I made a "squirrel face" with my face while making a noise with my teeth like I was a squirrel chewing on nutshells. And when I did that face for the first time, I made this person laugh so hard and so loud. It was the greatest sight! So I would make that face pretty often because I knew it always brought a laugh.

Okay, so it all starts out good right, but soon after, the errands start running a little longer than scheduled (because of their physical state, they move a little slower), and the time was starting to affect my home time with my family - my kids were much younger then and I wanted to spend more time during those stages. Nowadays, they will trade me for some Robux. Straight up.

So I think the caregiver job lasted about a month and I told that person that I wouldn't be able to continue. They seemed pretty bummed, and I was kinda too (also in part that the extra money was helpful)

However, I wanted to help find someone to continue helping this person because they were going to still need a part-time caregiver. I immediately though of my best friend who had been out of work at the time, but a full time father (Go Dads!). The hours are good, the pay is good, and the tasks are decent. I explained the idea to my buddy in order to see if he was interested in the job. He agreed to try it out and and see if it works. So on my last helping day in helping the person, I also brought along my best friend to introduce each other. They agreed to hire my friend for the job in place me. I also showed my squirrel face which was a jackpot.

I believe that sometimes, it's nobody's fault, it's just bad luck. And with that being said...

The day after, my best friend couldn't quite get the squirrel face down. They also didn't have a very positive discussion on politics. And at the end of the day, quite fittingly, the Elderly person fell down while getting out the car which required a visit to urgent care.

How did I find out you ask? Well many phone calls were made to my phone. I swear, if there was a way to make a book of voicemail recordings over the years. That would be fun! I didn't answer the phone and noticed I missed a few calls and texts... multiple texts from my best friend. It all unraveled right in front my ears.

I called back shortly to hear the person yelling at me in pain and blaming me for everything. She said I SET HER UP!! And That I was plotting against her from the beginning!! OMG, I was so saddened and shocked. It was an incredible turn of events. After that call, we never spoke again. Me and my best friend are fine, but that poor old person.

Until one day, about 1 month later (during the holidays) the person called my phone and left me a message. They said they were sorry for the way they reacted. Their voice was very sincere. They realized that we were only trying to help, and it was just bad luck was all.

I never returned the call, but it was a peaceful closing.
